The Battle of Britain and the Dambuster's Raid were undoubtedly two pivotal events that shaped the outcome of WW2. This exciting event taking place at Oswestry School by artist Dan Llywelyn Hall and Russ Kitely of 617 Group will provide a talk with a slide show and short films. The event will be a combination of history, art and the personal stories of the very pilots that helped shape these events and our history.
On 16th May, 2025 to coincide exactly with the eve of 82nd anniversary of Operation Chastise - commonly known as the Dambuster's Raid - one of the most audacious acts of WW2.
The artist, Dan Llywelyn Hall has has an impressive range of experience with sitting with the last veterans of WW1 such as Harry Patch and Henry Allingahm and then later pilots of WW2 such as Johnny Johnson - the last Dambuster and most recently, the last of the Few from the battle of Britain: John 'Paddy' Hemingway. The artist who was the youngest to paint Queen Elizabeth II, will give an illustrated tour through these encounters in portraiture along with illuminating anecdotes.
The second half of the evening will be Russ Kitely of Group 617 - a charity based in South Wales has created the most comprehensive display and presentation on the Dambusters that has toured internationally. An exclusive short film will be shown on the last Dambuster, Johnny Johnson.
An opportunity for Q&A will take place after the presentations. Refreshments will be available.
