The weekend began on Saturday morning, 13 Spetember, with the Old Oswestrian AGM, held in the Library, before the community gathered for the Founder’s Service in St Oswald’s Parish Church. The service was highlighted by a thought-provoking address from Chris Symons, much-loved former teacher (1971–2016), who spoke with warmth and humour about the enduring spirit of Oswestry.
The afternoon saw the return of sporting fixtures, all played out on Maes-y-Llan in front of a large and noisy crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The OO Football XI ran out convincing 7–2 winners against the Headmaster’s XI, while in the netball, the School showed their strength with a commanding 25–9 victory. In the shooting, the OOs took the honours, winning 171–151. The matches were followed by a prize-giving at 1.30pm, recognising players and teams alike.
Shooting: OOs take the win 171-151.
Football: OOs take the win 7-2.
Netball: School takes the win 25-9.
Alongside the sport, a bustling Fun Day offered entertainment for all ages, including a lively dog show, stalls, a climbing wall, an inflatable assault course, and plenty of food and drink.
In the evening, the celebrations moved indoors with pre-dinner drinks in Wilson’s at 6pm, which attracted a great crowd of both diners and non-diners. The sell-out Founder’s Dinner began at 7.30pm in Wilson’s Conservatory, where guests enjoyed a delicious three-course meal. After dinner, OO Steve Payne (1979–83) delivered a rousing motivational speech before the traditional toasts and an auction, which raised an impressive £595 for Society causes. The evening continued long into the night with plenty of laughter, socialising, and good cheer.

The weekend concluded on Sunday 14 September with the ever-popular OO Golf Day at Oswestry Golf Club, hosted by OO Becca Hollywell (2012–19). Even the torrential afternoon rain couldn’t dampen spirits, as participants enjoyed the competition and camaraderie that rounded off a wonderful weekend.
Lloyd Evans (2003-19), Ollie Hewett (current pupil), Laurie Bowen (2005-2020).
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who took part, supported, and helped organise such a memorable celebration of all things Oswestry. Roll on next year!
