We are sad to announce the death of Anthony (Tony) Alfred Abel who passed away on 12 June, 2024, aged 72.

1970's OOs

Tony entered Oswestry School in the 2nd Form in September 1964 and left after his O Levels in 1970 to join the Midland Bank (now HSBC). He enjoyed a successful career over 33 years ending up as Branch Manager in Telford.

Tony represented the School at sports and played in the 1st XI football team  (Tony is 4th from left on back row). Three in the photograph are now deceased, Saleem Khan, Graham Arthan and John Hare (teacher).

The Abel family are well known in Oswestry having had a successful fruit and veg business based behind the Bear pub. Tony was one of four boys and married Jennifer in 1974 having two daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth and two grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
