The final event in the upcoming Wilfred Owen Festival (March 15-23) will feature, amongst others, two former Oswestrians. The concert will be directed by Christopher Symons (or Bongo to those in the know!) and his daughter, the violinist Tamsin Symons.

Many former Oswestrians will remember Bongo, whose association with the school lasted well over 40 years. As well as being Head of Classics, he was also deeply involved in the music of the school, conducting the choir, playing the organ and piano and co-founding and then directing the prestigious Oswestry School Recital Series for over 25 years. Amongst many other aspects of school life he was deeply involved in sport and mountain expeditions, and wrote an updated version of the history of the school - 'Oswestry School: A Commemorative History 1407-2007.'

Tamsin (elder sister of Morwenna) begain at Bellan and stayed on through the Senior School. After university, she became a professional violinist, and has been a first violinist in the Orchestra of Opera North for over 25 years. Her husband, Richard, is the Principal Oboe in the same orchestra (though in his concert he will be playing the viola. Fuller details of all six muscians taking part are on the festival website.

Chris hopes that some of those who recall those days will be able to attend this concert, and stay on for a brief chat afterwards. Musically, for several reasons, it will be an unusual, important and moving occasion, full details of which can be found online at the festival website, under 'EVENTS'. Do please look at this. It is a fascinating read.
