Hailing from Texas, USA, Nancy had delved into her family tree and discovered that, according to Val Boyd Insley's A Family's History, she had five first cousins who were Headmistresses of the School, and their family lived nearby.
Lucretia Alice "Cre" Mickleburgh (1871-1965), daughter of William Mickleburgh and Rosa Dameris Wood (1846-1934). Lucretia founded Bellan House School with her sister, Rose (1872-1939), and her cousin, Bea Williams, Headmistress of the Preparatory School (1863-1944), in 1900.

May Morrell took over as Headmistress of the school which she then ran with her sister, Helen Dorothea "Dolly", for over 44 years.
Several of Nancy's English family attended school at Bellan House. In 1931, Nancy's mother travelled to England to visit the English side of the family and was allowed to spend the night at the school. She remembered sneaking down to the kitchen in the middle of the night to see if there was any food to eat!
Following the tour of Bellan, Nancy and Jim headed next door to our original School, The Old School House, for lunch.
